Beaunay is one of the 319 villages of the Champagne appellation, located in the Coteaux du Petit Morin region, southwest of Champagne. It is 12 km from Vertus, 22 km from Épernay, and 50 km from Reims.
The commune covers a total vineyard area of 41 hectares. Mainly planted with Meunier, the cultivation of Chardonnay is gaining importance due to its remarkable adaptation to the various clays of the terroir.
The geology of Beaunay is extremely varied, although clay is present throughout the territory. The soil depths vary significantly, ranging from 40 centimeters before reaching the chalk to 2.5 meters.
The dominant limestone in Beaunay is Micraster limestone, dating from the Campanian, the sixth stage of the Upper Cretaceous. We regularly observe, in certain geological veins, the presence of intact but very friable "Micraster glyphus". The "Micraster" was a genus of sea urchin living during the Cretaceous period.
